What does a pelvic health exam entail?

Q:

We will spend some time talking so you can tell us your whole story. We will ask questions to help us understand the full picture of your pelvic health. The learning begins here as we start to establish connections for you among the symptoms you have been feeling. The exam also includes a movement and strength exam. Additionally, if you are open to it, the evaluation also includes an internal pelvic floor exam which can be done vaginally or rectally. That exam can help your therapist gather information, but it is not required if you are uncomfortable with it.

A:

Can I come to my pelvic health PT session if I’m on my period?

Q:

Yes, if you are comfortable proceeding with a vaginal exam and doing so is part of your evaluation and treatment plan, your therapist can still do this on your period. There are also plenty of other things that you and your therapist can work on that do not include an internal vaginal exam, so coming in for the session is definitely worthwhile.
